We all knew it would happen ...

Clinton was used in a McCain ad. To all those who said her negative ads would not do any harm in the general election - I say foo-ee to you.

We all knew it would be used against Obama in the general election - the party leaders told her to stop to no avail.

I believe this is what prompted the princess to go out and campaign for the first time on behalf of Obama later.

I'm still worried what the ego-maniacs are going to do at the Convention. With Bill steping up just before Obama, who knows what his senial self will say.

Sad news this week in the Auto-World!

Andrea Pininfarina died in a scooter accident.

His scooter was hit by a car just outside Turin on Wednesday. He died instantly. Mr. Pininfarina was the head of a design group which worked for Ferrari, Maserati, Volvo (all the newer designs which are not boxy), Fiat and others...

He was 51.

Finally a report against the occupation...

Of Northern Ireland.

http://www.rte.ie/news/2008/0529/northpolitics.html?rss

An official report was announced in May that would outline the British acts when it "operated outside the law" in Northern Ireland. One can only hope it would detail how most of the attacks pinned to the I R A where really done by the Brits - including an attack at Parliment in London that killed to MPs.

But hey, they're still better than us.

Poor Girl ....

"Talula Does The Hula From Hawaii" was her name.

http://www.rte.ie/news/2008/0724/newzealand.html

There were some other interesting names identified in New Zealand for children over the past few years. Benson and Hedges for twins; Number 16 Bus Shelter were my favorites.

A true King in the making...

Prince William has now served on the front line in Afghanistan - didn't want to leave, but a tabloid publishing his picture and location made it impossible for him to stay.
He has also served with the Navy in the Atlantic stopping drug traffickers.

Now he is en-route to serving a stint in the SAS - the special forces of the Brits. Probably going to be in Iraq, as they aren't operating anywhere else full force lately - at least anywhere where they'd want to send the future king. Northern Ireland - they deny working there, and other areas are too "boring."
What did his dad do? Well he served on a Naval research vessel thru his entire military stint. Harry is following slightly in his brother's footsteps. (above in a borrowed uniform from William when his was lost in Heathrow's Terminal 5)...

Wall-E for real???

Well, your tax dollars at work - they're creating a Wall-E - well actually just another tool to help save soldiers in dangerous situations...

But looked familiar to me when I saw it.

SciFi's Universal Translator is now a reality

http://www.army.mil/-news/2008/07/30/11339-new-tool-may-enhance-the-way-soldiers-communicate-with-locals-in-theater/

Created to assist troops in communicating with civilians in the field, this devise will help ease the way we communicate with the world... It should also eliminate the need for not-always-friendly translators who could have their own agenda.

General Motors posts a slight loss....

OF nearly $16.5 billion for one quarter! That's a loss which occured over only three months! Not that they're going to seriously do anything about it - other than close some factories and layoff a good portion of their white-collar workers. Some of which are in the research / design departments!

Those are the people that they should have kept and put to work on alternative fuels and other ideas to move forward, oh well...

Arctic Ice Shelf Cracks and some ice falls into the sea.

20 square kilometers of the Artic ice shelf have fallen into the ocean. This area is in the form of two chucks - making up the largest amount in more than 5 years.

BUT global warming is not occuring.

-456 degrees F / -271 degrees C

Now that's COLD - almost as cold as a winter in the northeast... At this temperature Helium forms a super-liquid that conduct heat away from the magnets which will be submerged in the material quicker than anything else...

It's what one of the most expensive devices on the planet and this is the last step in the process to begin it's true existence... The Large Hadron Collider (LHC) was created to find the Higgs boson - the "god particle." But this name comes from it's importance in the "standard model." That silly idea that people have about physics and chemistry which relies upon "uncertainty principles," and laws which cannot be proved to be true everywhere.

AT least this is being done under the Swiss / French Alps in the CERN facility that they've been building for the past 3+ years. It is a 27 kilometer tunnel underground!!!

MARS - interesting findings recently

Recenly, new data has proven what many scientists and "off-the-wall" folks have been saying for years. That Mars was a water covered planet and that something came along and changed this - i.e. something smacked into the side of the planet and caused the water to evaporate and cause the one side of the planet to look different than the other.

In addition NASA has stated that asparagus (my least favorite veggie) could grow in the Martian soil. Showing yet again that there was water, nutrients in the soil, and other facts which could have led to actual life on the planet...

I just find it a little interesting that these theories have been around for years and that parts of it are being proven finally. I long thought that it was odd that the astroid belt is in our system. All other areas formed into planets or were destroyed long ago. But the astroids in the belt are large enough to appear "recent." A large strike of some object onto Mars could have formed this belt and could also have formed other anomolies throughout the solar system...

Just some interesting thoughts to ponder! Map below is from... The USGS!

US planned to test Sarin and VX on "diggers"

The United States planned to test at least Sarin and VX nerve agents on Australian troops as recently as the 1960s. This was released by the Australian Defence Department who was recently notified of the declassified information by the USDoD.
We're such wonderful people, aren't we - you don't need to be an enemy to have items used against you. This ranks up there with the radioactive tests on our own troops, and on our own cities from 1940's thru to the late 1980's. During which time, they dropped radioactive debris on such small towns as Miami, OK City, LA, NY, among others. - JUST to see how many more people would go to the ER comapred to the week prior to the drop.
