Second - Sunday is also the 120th anniversary of Israel Berlin's birthday. Better known as Irving Berlin, he composed well over 3,000 songs. Many of which are still favorites and American icons today...
When asked about Berlin's place in American music, composer Jerome Kern (of Ol' Man River, The Way You Look Tonight, and Can't Help Lovin' Dat Man fame) responded: "Irving Berlin has no place in American music - he is 'American music.'" Useless fact - Berlin could only play in the key of F# - not an easy key for anyone else to sing, compose, etc.; therefore, he had Steinway create several "transposing pianos" for him. These allowed a lever to change the key of the music being played to just about anyother key.
So this Sunday play some of Berlin's hits for your mother... She'll probably be surprised you know who he is!!!
